Going green

School environmental management plans work across the key learning areas of the curriculum and the whole school community.

We start with local sustainability and over time develop student understanding of how their work contributes globally.

Students and staff manage, observe and monitor our school's resources, waste and physical surroundings, then take on activities to protect and improve our school and the local environment.

Your child will develop an understanding about:

  • the relationship between human activities and natural systems
  • sustainable management of the earth's resources
  • the inter-related nature of processes in the natural environment

We encourage you to support your child's 'going green' activities, and to help them to learn to care for the environment as part of their everyday lives.

Our school is also operating a water and energy conservation policy. Our water use is constantly measured and our school is alerted if their is an unusual amount of water being used. We also generate solar power.

We encourage students to put all food scraps in our composting bins to be used on our school garden. All recyclables are collected in our yellow bins. All fine plastics are also recovered and recycled through local supermarkets.

The only rubbish we have left are materials of mixed types. Yogurt tubes are one of our main culprits. Please help us by considering using no packaging or reusable packaging like cups and containers.

We used to use up to 7 red bins that went to landfill. Some weeks we are down to a half of one red bin- that's a huge difference to make to our world.
